SCOOP AND SCORE

Box Score

JACKSON, MS- The Majors returned two Tiger fumbles back for scores and Rashad Sims had a 100 yard receiving day, highlighting a 38-20 homecoming win over the Sewanee Tigers on Saturday.

Javis Aultman and Alex Jackson each brought back fumbles to break open the game and help lead the Majors to their first conference win of the season.

After the Tigers capped off an 11 play, 90-yard drive with a score, Millsaps rallied with 17 unanswered points. Beau Brady drilled a 30-yard field goal and Rashad Sims got loose on a 67-yard touchdown pass as the Majors took a 10-6 lead. Sims closed the day with 112 yards on five catches.

Aultman would make it 17-6 after a botched pitch by the Tigers bounced right to the safety and he ran 60-yards untouched to give the Majors a two-score lead. The defense would stymie the Tigers on their next drive, late in the half, and force a punt back to the Majors with 1:30 remaining.

Millsaps would only need 13 seconds, Beau Wells broke two tackles and took a crossing route 45 yards for a score to put Millsaps up 24-6. That would be the score at the half.

The Tigers would churn out a nine-minute drive to open the second half, scoring on a throwback pass to Devante Jones to make it 24-13. The Majors would respond immediately. A strong rushing attack of Chandler Loy and Isaiah Talton spearheaded a 72-yard drive that led to a one-yard Zak Thrasher plunge to make it 31-13 Majors. The Tigers moved in the wrong direction on the final play of the third quarter, losing 10 yards before fumbling a pitch that Alex Jackson took 47 yards for six on the quarter's final play. Sewanee would get a late defensive touchdown in the fourth to round out the game's scoring.

The freshman Talton did most of his damage in the fourth quarter as the Majors ate up clock. Talton just missed on a 100 yard day of his own, but ran 10 times for 97 yards to lead the Majors' ground game. Defensively, Zach Bell and Alex Foust had 12 stops each to lead the team. Bell also added 2.5 sacks and Foust 1.5 as the Majors' pass rush got four sacks on just 15 Sewanee pass plays.

The win moves Millsaps to 2-4 overall and 1-2 in the SAA. They will have a short week this week as they travel to Rome, Georgia to take on the Berry Vikings. Kick time from Barron Stadium is set for 6pm on Friday night.
