Box Score MT. BERRY, GA- Raphael Johnson scored on a fourth down, one-yard plunge midway through the fourth and the Majors picked up their second conference win in row, 15-10 over the Berry Vikings on a wet Halloween night.
The Majors' defense, led by Jeff Milner's 11 tackles, was the story on Friday night. The Millsaps' D held the Vikings to just 169 yards of total offense including a paltry 94 yards through the air.
Millsaps opened the scoring late in the second quarter, capping off a 60-yard drive with a 21-yard Zak Thrasher pass to Rashad Sims. Beau Brady added the extra point to make it 7-0. The key play on the drive was a 32-yard run by Chandler Loy who rushed for 105 yards on Friday night.
The Berry offense scored their lone points of the evening on the next drive, knocking home a 32-yard field goal to make it 7-3. Berry's offense was setup on a short field thanks to a 59-yard kick return.
Thrasher would be intercepted inside the red zone at the Vikings' three on the following drive in the later stages of the first half. The Majors' defense picked up the senior quarterback by forcing a safety off a bad snap to make it 9-3 Majors at the half.
Berry would take the lead midway through the third when Thrasher fumbled into his own end zone and the ball was recovered by the Vikings' Preston Stewart to make it 10-9 Vikings.
Given the windy and rainy conditions, this was a game of field position for much of the contest. The two teams would continue to trade punts for the remainder of the third quarter.
Ben Dudley pinned the Vikings inside their own 10 and the Majors forced a Berry punt to set up Millsaps for the game-winning drive. The Majors used short passes and a 10-yard Raphael Johnson run to set up a goal-to-go situation.
The Majors would get it inside the Vikings one-yard line and were initially stopped on fourth down. A substitution penalty on Berry gave Millsaps another crack at a fourth-down score. Johnson powered it in for the game-winning touchdown.
Berry would punt following a Loy fumble, hoping to get the ball back. They never did. Millsaps ran the clock out with Johnson again converting a fourth down to send Millsaps to 3-4 on the season.
The win also improves the Majors to 2-2 in conference. They will close out their road schedule next Saturday with a trip to Danville, Kentucky to take on the Centre Colonels.
