Box Score JACKSON- The Millsaps Majors erased an early first set Schreiner lead and improved to 5-0 on the season with a 25-20, 25-13, 25-9 sweep of the Mountaineers.
Lexus Andrews led a balanced attack with 10 kills on the afternoon as six Majors had at least five kills in the victory. Caroline McKey led the defense with 15 digs as Millsaps held Schreiner to a negative overall hitting percentage.
It was the Mountaineers that had the momentum early, leading 6-0 and 10-3. In the beginning stages of the match, the Majors would get back to within three, only to see Schreiner extend the lead. That changed on the service of freshman Ashley Zamjahn (pictured). She ripped off seven straight points, including a pair of aces to turn the tide in the Majors' favor. Millsaps would never trail again in the match and would close out the first set with back-to-back kills.
Zamjahn again had the hot service hand, tallying up three aces in a service run to start the second set, she finished with five overall on the match. Millsaps grabbed an early 6-0 and kept pouring it on, leading by 11 on multiple occasions. Kills by freshmen Regan Riddle and Sierra Burris closed out the set as the Majors went up two sets to zero.
The third set was a carbon copy of the second as Mary Wilson and Lexus Andrews got the Majors off to a 9-2 lead with a solid early service game. After holding off a brief Schreiner run that closed the lead to four, Presley Stoltzfus got red-hot from the service line, winning nine straight points. The run put the Majors up 21-7 and they coasted to a 25-9 set win and a 3-0 match sweep.
The win moves Millsaps to 5-0 on the young season while Schreiner falls to 0-6. The Majors are back in action at 7pm tonight as they host local rival Belhaven
