Jackson, MS - The Millsaps Women's Basketball Team won their first game of the regular season by defeating Rust College earlier today.
 
Sunday's 67-54 win marks the first win of the season, as the Majors began the year against nonconference opponent Rust College.  Millsaps capitalized on second chance points in today's contest.  The Majors scored 40 of their 67 points on second chances and 19 total points off of turnovers.
 
Today's game featured four quarters a per a recent offseason rule change for Division III women's basketball.  The Majors scored the first points of the game with a Rebecca Harris field goal two minutes into the first period.  From there, the Majors never trailed as they held off a Rust rally in the second period to lead 34-28 at the half.
 
In the third quarter, the Majors began to put the game out of reach for the Lady Bearcats.  Leading 34-32, Millsaps scored the next 11 points to hold a commanding third quarter lead.  The Majors continued their lead well into the fourth quarter as they outscored Rust 3-26 in the second half.
 
Millicent Bulter and Rebecca Harris led the way in scoring with 11 and 10 points apiece while Miah Brooks, Marissa Taylor and Braxton Thomas all scored nine points each.
 
The Majors will look to use the positive start to the season with another home game this Tuesday.  Next up for Millsaps is a nonconference matchup against LeTourneau Tuesday, Nov. 17th at 5:30 pm at the Hangar Dome.
