Shreveport, LA – The Millsaps Women's Basketball Team dropped their second game of the weekend against Austin College for the final day of the SCAC/SAA Challenge.
Austin College earned 47 points from their bench as the Roos stormed out to a 45-20 first half lead. The Majors mounted a second half come from behind rally where despite outscoring the Roos 48-31 in the final quarters, Millsaps fell 76-68.
The Majors led today's contest in points off turnovers, second chance points, points in the paint and fast break points. However, despite leading in several statistical categories, the first half deficit was too much to overcome as the Majors fall to 2-2 on the year. Austin College continues their season undefeated as today's win improves them to 3-0.
The Roos fast start was due in large part to a great deal of effective, efficient shooting. Austin College shot 63 percent from the field (17-27) and 75 percent (6-8) for three-pointers in the first half. With such effective shooting, the Majors quickly fell behind after being outscored 13-9 in the first quarter and 32-11 in the second.
Millsaps, however, came out into the second half with a great deal of fight and effort.
Braxton Thomas,
Marissa Taylor,
Miah Brooks and
Kasi Matthews all scored double digits to help the Majors outscore Austin 31-13 in the fourth quarter.
Braxton Thomas also earned a double-double for the Majors with a season high 29 points and 17 rebounds.
The Majors will have a few days to regroup before another road game early next month. Next up for the Millsaps Women's Basketball Team is a rematch against instate opponent Rust College on the road, Tuesday Dec. 1st at 5:30 pm.
