SERIES:  The Majors will lace em up against conference foe, the Birmingham-Southern Panthers this weekend at home. In the last ten meetings between the two teams, Millsaps and BSC have split the series, both achieving five wins a piece.

 

LAST OUTING: Millsaps: In a 40-21 loss at Centre, the Majors offense struggled to get off the ground as starter Chance Clowers had a rough day at the office, only completing four of his 18 passing attempts and throwing three interceptions. Backup Ty Proctor came in the game and had a better day heading the offense late, completing five of ten passing attempts for 127 passing yards and a touchdown. Rashad Sims got going on the ground, averaging 7.2 yards per carry for 72 yards on ten attempts. Taz Watson also made positive gains on the ground with 13 rushing attempts for 42 yards and two touchdowns. Rashad Sims took one long touchdown to the house, adding a 72 yard touchdown reception to his day for a prolific 128 yards receiving as well. Defensively, defensive player of the week nominee Jared Bullock led the team with a season high 15 solo tackles. Malcolm Ben was right behind him with ten tackles and one pass breakup.

Birmingham-Southern: Birmingham-Southern dropped their last contest 47-17 to Hendrix. Against Hendrix, BSC had a slow day through the air, only amassing 137 yards passing. The Panthers also picked up 183 yards rushing to make for 320 yards total on the day. On defense, Birmingham-Southern gave up 614 total yards, 366 through the air and 248 on the ground. On the season, BSC is led by Kerrigan Pennington at quarterback with 790 yards passing and 670 yards rushing. On defense, a key player to look out for is linebacker Cole Murphy who leads all Panthers with 42 tackles.

 

PAST MEETINGS:  Birmingham-Southern beat Millsaps 35-18 last year in conference play. In a pass heavy game, Majors threw for a combined 402 passing yards and two touchdowns, with Ty Proctor leading the way with 253 yards passing. Andrew Warren had a monster day catching the ball, putting up four receptions for 169 yards and one touchdown.

Two years prior, BSC won a close one 16-4

In 2013, Millsaps won beat Birmingham-Southern convincingly 28-14, making the past three year series between the two 1-2 in BSC's favor.

 

COACHES: Millsaps head coach Aaron Pelch is 40-33 into his eighth season at the helm of the Majors, with his best year coming in 2013 with a record of 9-1.

Pelch was named SAA Coach of the Year in both 2012 and 2013 as he guided the Majors to conference championships.

Pelch is 3-5 vs. Birmingham-Southern.

 

Eddie Garfinkle is entering his ninth season at the helm of the Birmingham-Southern College football program. He was named head coach in February 2008 after serving as the defensive coordinator in 2007, the College's first year of playing football since 1939. He holds an overall record of 40-38 during his tenure at BSC.
