Box Score 2 Jackson, MS – The Millsaps Softball Team split a pair of games with Centenary College earlier today at the Millsaps Softball Complex.
Today's double-header marks the second straight weekend the Majors play at home, as they won the first game and fell in the second. With today's double-header, Millsaps now moves to 2-2 on the year while Centenary moves to 4-2.
Cassidy DeNoon and
Danielle Faucheux both pitched full games for the Majors, as Millsaps earned their second win of the year with a thrilling walk off RBI single earlier in the day.
Millsaps won the first game 6-5 in extra innings after Centenary tied the game in the top of the seventh. Both teams exchanged runs with Millsaps coming from behind down 2-0 after two frames.
In the positive third inning,
Rayne Gravat doubled to center field to put the Majors on the board. From there,
Rayner LeBlanc singled down the left field line to score Gravat.
After a Centenary single in the top of the fourth,
Cassidy DeNoon retired three straight batters. Millsaps then scored two more runs on RBI singles from
Kat Romero and
Rayne Gravat.
The Ladies of Centenary responded with three unanswered runs in the fifth and seventh innings. With the game tied, DeNoon and the Majors' defense forced a three up, three down top of the eighth to allow a walk off opportunity.
With a runner in scoring position,
Hannah Doggett delivered on a walk off RBI single to center field to seal the win. With the win, Majors pitcher
Cassidy DeNoon now moves to 2-1 on the year.
Megan Murray and
Rayne Gravat both led Millsaps with three hits each while Gravat also totaled three RBIs.
Missy Romero also had two hits as the Majors finished the first game with six runs on 13 hits and three errors.
In the second game, Millsaps fell 4-2. The second game followed the theme of the first by being heavily contested and decided in the final moments of the last inning.
After three scoreless frames, Millsaps took a 2-0 lead on a sacrifice RBI by
Rayne Gravat and RBI single by
Megan Murray. Centenary would answer with a run in the fifth on an RBI single down the left field line.
Heading to the top of the seventh, Millsaps led 2-1. However, Centenary scored three runs in the top of the inning to retake the lead – and never looked back. Two ground outs and a strike out in the bottom of the seventh finished the day of play, as both teams finish the weekend with a victory.

Kat Romero and
Megan Murray led Millsaps in hits for the second game with one each. Millsaps, now 2-2 on the year, will look to improve over .500 on the young season with a pair of double-headers next weekend.
Huntingdon and the University of Dallas travel to the Millsaps Softball Complex next weekend for tournament action Saturday (Feb. 20th) and Sunday (Feb. 21st).
First up for the weekend tournament is a matchup against Huntingdon this Saturday. First pitch against the Hawks is set for Feb. 20th at 10:00 am.
