Box Score 2 Jackson, MS – The Millsaps Softball Team fell in a pair of road games to Mississippi College earlier today by scores of 6-2 and 11-3.
The trip to Clinton marked the first road games of the season for the Majors. Today's contest also sets up the longest series of away games for Millsaps Softball as well. With the sweep, the Majors fall to 6-4 on the young season while Mississippi College moves to 8-8.
In the first game of the day, Millsaps led 2-0 through three frames. The Choctaws, however, answered by taking the lead with two runs in the fourth, one in the fifth and three in the sixth to secure a 6-2 win. In the second game, Mississippi College scored three in the first – and never looked back en route to an 11-3 win.
In the first game, first baseman
Rayne Gravat put Millsaps on the board first with a two RBI single up the middle. Gravat's hit scored the duo of
Kat Romero and
Missy Romero, which gave the Majors an early 2-0 lead.
Mississippi College, however, answered by scoring six unanswered runs to secure their seventh win of the year. For the final game-one stat line, the Majors scored two runs on a hit and two errors while the Choctaws scored six runs on five hits and no errors.
In the second matchup of the day, Mississippi College started the game fast with a three run first. The Choctaws never looked back either, as they finished with 11 runs on 12 hits.
For the second game, the Majors scored twice in the second inning and once in the fifth. With the bases loaded, a good eye by
Lexi Barron walked in a run followed by a
Missy Romero ground out, which scored
Sarah Scales.
In the fifth inning,
Missy Romero put the Majors on the board again, this time with an RBI double. The double to left center scored Barron and ended the scoring for the Majors on the day.
Overall,
Missy Romero led Millsaps in RBIs with two while
Rayne Gravat and
Kaitlyn Casias led in hits with two each.
Missy Romero,
Kat Romero and
Lexi Barron also all totaled one hit each.
Now at 6-4, the Majors will continue their first road trip of the season with another double-header later this weekend.
Next up for the Millsaps Softball Team is a double header with Auburn Montgomery. First pitch from Montgomery, Alabama is set for Saturday, Feb. 27th at 1:00 pm.
