Jackson, MS – Millsaps Men's Tennis dropped a non-conference matchup to UT-Tyler by a score of 7-2 on Saturday.
 
The nationally ranked Patriots earned their seventh win of the season with the 7-2 victory, while the Majors drop to 3-2.  UT-Tyler earned victories in all three doubles matches and won four of the six singles matchups to secure the win.
 
The Majors earned solid wins in the two and three spots for singles.  Emerson Brundick and Alex Centurion both took their opponents to three sets to secure the close, intense victories.  After splitting the first two sets, Alex Centurion won the tiebreaker 10-7 to earn the win.
 
For Brundick's singles matchup, UT-Tyler earned a first set win 6-2.  Brundick, however, stormed back winning the next two sets 6-3, 6-3 to secure the three spot singles win.
 
In the one spot, Diego Marti-Vertiz faced Daniel Budd, who is currently ranked 21st in the nation (ITA rankings).  In front of a large, excited crowd, Diego Marti-Vertiz took the senior All-American to the limit in a three-set match.
 
With a 1-1 tie, Budd earned a final third set win to close out the back-and-forth matchup.  In all, the Majors gained a great deal of experience in playing a tough, nationally ranked opponent.
 
"We're trying to play a tougher schedule this year, we need to be pushed," Head Tennis Coach Jason Box said.  "UT Tyler is a nationally recognized team and it was a good challenge for us."
 
The Majors will face Loyola (New Orleans) for another non-conference home matchup Sunday at 1:00 pm.
