Millsaps Softball Completes Spring Break Play in Clermont, FL

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 Clermont, FL – The Millsaps Softball Team completed Spring Break play in Florida by splitting a pair of non-conference games earlier today.
 
Friday's matchups conclude the week of play in Clermont with the Majors finishing with five wins and three losses.  The series of Spring Break games also marks the longest road trip of the season, as the Majors traveled nearly 700 miles down to the Sunshine State. 
 
Millsaps got the week started on a positive note with a pair of wins on Monday against Wesley College and Haverford College – 3-2 and 5-1, respectively.  Following a loss to Meredith College on Tuesday, the Majors bounced back with a 4-2 win over Lakeland later in the day.
 
Following a break in play on Wednesday, the Majors took the field for another double-header on Thursday.  After a close 3-2 loss to Muhlenberg, the Majors again rebounded with a win later in the day – this time against Moravian College, 5-0.
 
Friday closed out the play for the week, as the Majors split a pair of games with Thiel College and State University of New York Postdam.
 
Millsaps fell to SUNY Postdam 8-5, but earned a 5-1 win over Thiel, closing out the week of play.  Following Friday's matchups, Millsaps now moves to 11-9 on the year with conference play beginning next weekend.
 
In Friday's loss, the Majors fell behind after an 8 run, bottom of the first for SUNY Postdam.  After the eight-run first, the Bears never looked back with the comeback effort by the Majors falling short.
 
Katelyn Murray got things started in the first with a single advancing Sarah Scales to third base.  Following a throwing error by the catcher, Scales scored to give the Majors an early 1-0 lead.
 
Millsaps would score twice in the following inning on a two RBI single by Sarah Scales that scored Missy Romero and Cassidy Hendrix, cutting the Bear's lead 8-3.
 
Another two-RBI single in the fifth inning cut the deficit to three runs, but the comeback attempt fell short, as SUNY Postdam earned an 8-5 win.
 
Earlier in the day, however, Millsaps earned a 5-1 win over Thiel College to earn their 11th win of the year.  Sarah Scales got things started in the first frame with a home run to left field – giving the Majors an early 1-0 lead.
 
The Wildcats would tie the game in the second on an RBI ground out, but the Majors retook the lead in the fourth on a four-run rally.  Kathryn Romero got the scoring started on an RBI single that scored Lexi BarronMissy Romero then singled up the middle, scoring MK Bozeman.
 
Another RBI by Sarah Scales, this time on a double to left center, scored Missy Romero giving the Majors a 4-1 lead.  Rayne Gravat then doubled to left field to score Scales, ending the positive fourth with four runs on five hits.
 
Cassidy DeNoon and the Majors' defense closed out the game to earn the 5-1 victory.  DeNoon pitched the full game giving up five hits and no earned runs while striking out six batters. 
 
Friday's play completes the series of games in Florida for the Majors, as they return to Millsaps for a few days off.  In all, the road trip proved to be a positive experience for the Majors, who now look to use the momentum heading into conference play next weekend.
 
Next up for Millsaps Softball is a road series in Arkansas against Hendrix.  First pitch for the opening conference series against the Warriors is set for Saturday, March 19th at 12:00 pm.
