Box Score Memphis, TN – The Millsaps Softball Team earned their second conference series win of the season shutting out Rhodes on Saturday by a score of 3-0.
Saturday's contest marked the series finale between the Majors and Lynx, as Millsaps used a three-run third to secure their 16th win of the season. The trio of
Kat Romero,
Missy Romero and
Rayne Gravat recorded the RBIs for Millsaps while
Rayner LeBlanc and
Megan Murray led in hits with two each.
Majors' starting pitcher
Cassidy DeNoon also shined in Saturday's rubber match pitching a complete shutout game. DeNoon only allowed four hits in 29 batters faced and struck out four. With the win, the Majors ace improves to 11-8 on the year as well.
In the positive third
Megan Murray got things started with a leadoff single to left center field. From there,
MK Bozeman advanced Murray to second on a groundout to third, leaving the door open for an opportune at-bat for
Kat Romero.
Romero delivered with an RBI double to left center scoring Murray and giving the Majors their first lead of the day.
Missy Romero continued the positive momentum with another double to left center, which scored
Kat Romero.
Hannah Doggett then reach first on a walk, as
Rayne Gravat closed out the scoring for the inning – and eventually the game – on another RBI double. When Doggett crossed home plate, the Majors totaled three runs on four hits in the momentous third – and never looked back.
Cassidy DeNoon and the Majors' defense closed out the remaining five innings of play to secure the shutout win. With a three-up, three-down bottom of the seventh, the Majors completed the win with three runs on seven hits and one error.
Millsaps also improves to 5-4 in conference play and 16-13 overall with Saturday's win. The Majors will look to continue the positive momentum with another conference series scheduled next weekend.
The Millsaps Softball Team returns home to face the Centre Colonels for a three game series starting Saturday, April 2nd. First pitch from the Millsaps Softball Complex is set for 12:00 pm.
