Lookout Mountain, GA – The Millsaps Men's Tennis team improved over .500 on the year with a 9-0 victory at Covenant College.
 
Friday's win marks the first road matchup of the season for the Majors, as they improve to 4-3 with the complete win.  After a few hard fought victories in doubles play, the Majors swept the singles matchups to earn the victory.
 
The duo of Alex Centurion and Diego Marti-Vertiz got things started with an 8-3 doubles win.  Josh Shearin and Cooper Cearley then earned a close 8-5 victory in the two spot, followed by a hard fought 8-6 win by Cameron Doles and Justin Stubblefield.
 
Holding a 3-0 lead, the Majors continued the positive momentum by winning all six singles matchups.  In the one spot, Diego Marti-Vertiz earned a close, two-set win 6-4, 7-6 (1).  Alex Centurion, Avinash Ananth and Cameron Doles earned convincing wins at the second, third and fourth spots while Cooper Cearley blanked his opponent in the sixth spot. 
 
In the five spot, Josh Shearin earned a close, intense win in three sets.  After falling in the first set 7-5, Shearin answered with a 7-5 victory.  In the tiebreaker, Shearin completed the comeback winning the set 10-4.
 
Now at 4-3, the Majors will look to continue the positive momentum from the first road trip of the season with Spring Break play next week. 
 
Millsaps Men's Tennis will travel to Hilton Head, South Carolina for a series of five games next week.  First up for the Majors is a matchup against Milligan Monday, March 7th at 2:00 pm.
