Sewanee, TN – The Millsaps Men's Tennis team fell to 28th ranked Sewanee on the road for the final match of the weekend.
With inclement weather in the area, part of Sunday's match was moved indoors due to the bad conditions. The Tigers held an early 3-0 lead in doubles play and later clinched the match with two singles victories at the two and four spots. With the win, Sewanee improves to 12-5 (4-0) while the Majors drop to 12-8 (2-3).
Sewanee began the day with a close 8-6 win at the doubles one spot. The duo of
Alex Centurion and
Diego Marti-Vertiz fell in the close matchup while
Emerson Brundick and
Cooper Cearley dropped an intense match at the doubles two spot. Sewanee secured the hard fought doubles win 9-7 and later took a 3-0 lead with an 8-2 win at the three spot.
The Tigers then clinched the match in singles play with a win at the two spot 6-3, 6-2 and at the four spot 6-1, 6-2. With the match clinched and bad weather in the area, the contest was called – leaving Sewanee the victor 5-0.
Now at 12-8, the Majors will look to rebound with the final pair of regular season conference matches next weekend. Millsaps Men's Tennis hosts Rhodes and Hendrix next weekend with play beginning Saturday, April 16th.
