Softball Falls in First Day of SAA Tournament

Collierville, TN – The Millsaps Softball team fell to Rhodes in the first day of conference tournament play by a score of 3-0.

The SAA Tournament, hosted by Rhodes in Collierville, Tennessee, began on Friday with Millsaps securing the three seed after a regular season record of 21-19 (10-8).  Rhodes, who secured the sixth seed after a 22-18 (4-14) regular season, secured the win – and only runs of the day – with a three-run homerun in the third inning.

Millsaps will now face the seventh seeded Sewanee Tigers Saturday, April 23rd at 10:00 am for the second day of the double elimination conference tournament.

The three-run homerun by Rhodes proved to be the difference maker, as starting pitcher Cassidy DeNoon pitched a complete game giving up three runs in 28 batters faced with four strikeouts.

Millsaps loaded the bases once in the fourth with one out on the board, but could not bring any runners home.  Overall, the Lynx completed the game with three runs on six hits and an error while the Majors finished the contest with six hits and no errors.

Designated hitter Hannah Doggett led the Majors in hits with two while Kat Romero, Missy Romero, Kaitlyn Casias and Lexi Barron each recorded one.  Friday's low scoring contest, which only lasted 84 minutes, begins the conference tournament for the Majors, as they will look to quickly rebound with an elimination game tomorrow.

Millsaps Softball faces Sewanee tomorrow, April 23rd to begin the second day of SAA Tournament play.  First pitch against the Tigers in Collierville, TN is set for 10:00 am.
