Jackson, MS – The Millsaps Softball team fell in extra innings to Centre for the final day of a three-game series.
Sunday's contest marked the series finale between the Majors and Colonels, as Centre rallied in the fifth to eventually earn a 4-3 win in extras. The Majors, who won the series with a pair of wins on Saturday, move to 18-14 (7-5) while the Colonels improve to 11-14 (6-6).
Millsaps held a 2-0 lead before falling in the eighth.
Missy Romero got things started in the third with a sacrifice fly to score
MK Bozeman.
Rayner LeBlanc then doubled to left center to score
Kat Romero and give the Majors an early 2-0 lead.
Centre, however, answered by taking the lead in the fifth. The Colonels scored three times to take a 3-2 lead, but Millsaps answered in the following inning.
Trailing by a run,
Rayne Gravat stepped up to bat with no outs. She doubled to right center, giving
Katelyn Murray an opportune at-bat. Murray delivered with another double – this time to left field – to score pinch runner
Cassidy Hendrix and tie the game.
Neither team would score in the seventh - as both went three-up, three-down - to send the game to extra innings for the second time in two days. With runners at second and third, Centre scored on an RBI single in the eighth – and never looked back to earn the 4-3 win.
Rayne Gravat and
MK Bozeman led in hits with two each while
Rayner LeBlanc,
Missy Romero and
Katelyn Murray each had an RBI on the day.
Now at 18-14, the Majors will look to rebound with a non-conference matchup scheduled later this week. The Millsaps Softball team will face Mississippi College for a pair of home games this Wednesday, April 6th.
First pitch for the double-header is set for 2:00 pm at the Millsaps Softball Complex.
