Jackson, MS – The Millsaps Men's Tennis team fell in a non-conference matchup to Belhaven on Monday by a score of 7-2.
Monday's match marked the second of the season between the Blazers and Majors as Millsaps Men's Tennis falls to 11-7 with the loss. Belhaven secured a 2-1 lead after doubles play and eventually clinched the match in singles.
The duo of
Davis Plummer and
Cameron Doles played well at the doubles one spot to secure a solid 8-5 win. The early win put the Majors on the board as they trailed 2-1 heading to singles play.
At the one spot,
Davis Plummer fell in an intense back and forth three set match. After falling in the first set 6-2, Plummer responded winning the second 6-4. He later dropped the third set 10-5 in the hard fought match.
Peyton Mathiews also dropped a hard fought match at the singles six spot in three sets. Mathiews led early winnig the first set 6-3, but later fell in the second 6-3. His opponent secured the tough matchup in the third set 10-6.
Brian Deason secured the singles win for Millsaps at the five spot. Deason earned the solid win in two sets 6-4 and 6-3.
Now at 11-7, the Majors will look to quickly rebound with a pair of conference road games scheduled later this weekend. Millsaps Men's Tennis will face Centre Saturday, April 9th and Sewanee the following day, April 10th.
Opening play against the Colonels is set to begin at 9:00 am CST.
