Box Score CHICAGO, Ill. – The Millsaps College football team suffered their first road loss against the University of Chicago, falling 35-16 on Saturday, Sept. 17.
The Majors offense worked hard to put points on the board, collecting more first downs than the Maroons 22-16 and more complete passes 15-9 but the Millsaps defense struggled to prevent Chicago from making it to the end zone.
The Major offense was led by
Chance Clowers who completed 30 passes out of 57 for 351 yards and one touch down.
Andrew Warren led the Majors in rushing with 12 carries for 60 yards and
Ty Durham led in receiving with five receptions for 76 yards.
Taz Watson made great offensive strides for the Majors with 19 carries for 55 yards and one touchdown and
Andrew Jarreau grabbed four receptions for 58 yards for an additional touchdown.
On the defensive side of the ball,
Hector Sandoval led in tackles with 8 solo tackles and 8 assists. He also grabbed one force fumble and one interception.
Brooks Rosandich followed close behind with seven solo tackles and two assist and he was credited with one tackle for a loss of one yard.
Chicago dominated the first half of the game, putting up 21 points to the Majors seven.
Taz Watson scored the first point for Millsaps with 2:34 left in the first half. After eight plays for 87 yards, Watson carried the ball one yard for a touchdown.
In the second half of the game, Millsaps started the scoring effort with a 21-yard field goal by
Carson King. The Majors were able to get King into field goal range after 10 plays for 35 yards just 4:30 into the half.
Chicago sealed the win after two touchdowns in the fourth quarter but being down 35-10 did not prevent Majors from fighting through. With less than two minutes in the game, Jarreau scored the Majors final touchdown on a 30 yard pass from Clowers.
The Majors will be back in action on Saturday, Sept. 24. at 1 p.m. Millsaps will bring the game back home as they host Hendrix College in the first conference game of the season. Come out and support Millsaps football as they look to win the first conference game of the year.
