LEESBURG, Fla. (Mar. 14, 2017) - Millsaps Softball team went 1-1 on day three of their Spring Break Softball tournament in Florida. Millsaps beat Arcadia University 8-0 and lost to Amherst College 0-3. They are not 3-1 so far on spring break, after having their game against Marywood rained out and cancelled. Before facing Amherst, Millsaps was on a eight game winning streak.
Against Arcadia,
Kayla Davidson didn't allow a single run in the 8-0 victory. Davidson allowed just two hits and struck out 12 batters. Millsaps scored four runs in the fifth inning. The big inning was thanks to a single by
Megan Murray, a walk by
MK Bozeman, and a error. The Majors collected eight hits.
Rayne Gravat and Murray each collected multiple hits.
Kat Romero went 1-for-4 at the plate as she led the team with three runs batted in.
Softball's game against Amherst College was a heartbreaker for Millsaps, as they lost the lead late in a 3-0 defeat. The game was tied at zero with Amherst College batting in the bottom of the sixth when there was an error, scoring one run. The pitching was strong on both sides. Amherst College pitchers struck out six, while
Cassidy DeNoon sat down six.
One bright spot for the Majors was a single by
Kat Romero in the first inning.
Cassidy DeNoon took the loss for the Majors. She tossed six innings, giving up three runs, three hits, striking out six, and walking one. Romero led Millsaps with two hits in three at bats.
