MINNEOLA, FL. (Mar. 15, 2017) -- Millsaps Softball defeated the
NFCA's #21 ranked team in Division III Softball, Manhattanville 4-2. This win is the Majors' first victory over a ranked opponent on the season.
This game also concludes their annual Spring Break tournament in Florida. In their six game Spring Break tournament, the Majors went 4-1 (with one game cancelled due to rain).
Millsaps defeated Manhattanville 4-2 largely thanks to a strong start. The Majors scored two runs on a single by
Kaitlyn Casias and one run on a single by
Kat Romero in the second inning, giving them a 3-0 lead after two innings.
Kayla Davidson earned the win at pitcher. She had another strong outing on the mound, bringing her to 9-2 on the season. She pitched seven innings, allowing two runs, four hits, striking out eight, and walking zero.
Millsaps collected eight hits.
Megan Murray and
MK Bozeman each collected multiple hits to lead the Majors in hits. Casias, Romero, and Bozeman all batted runners in.
After this victory, the Majors are now 15-6 on the season, heading into SAA conference play against Birmingham-Southern on the road this weekend, Mar. 18.
