DANVILLE, Ky. (Mar. 25, 2017) - In a road softball series against Centre, Millsaps grabbed two wins in three games to win the series. Millsaps opened the day with a 3-0 shutout win over Centre. Centre grabbed the second game 1-0, and the Majors bounced back to win the third game 5-0.
Inclement weather changed up the schedule for Millsaps and Centre, each game was moved up. The original time for the Saturday doubleheader was 2:00pm/4:00pm and the Sunday game at 12:00pm, however because of incoming thunderstorms, the games were all played at 12:00pm, 2:00pm and 5:15pm on Saturday.
Last minute changes didn't slow up the Majors however, as they arrived early and took care of business, especially on the defensive end.
Kayla Davidson got the start at pitcher, and she led the way for the Majors on the mound. She struck out 12 batters and only gave up five hits in yet another shutout for her eighth shutout of the season. The game was close throughout; both teams were shutout through five innings before Millsaps finally got on the scoreboard off a single by
Rayne Gravat. Then, in the seventh inning,
Kat Romero singled to bring another batter in and a pitch hit Davidson, getting another runner in for a run.
In the second outing,
Cassidy DeNoon got the start on the mound and struck out six batters while only giving up one run. Centre won the second game early, scoring the only run of the game in the bottom of the first inning on a double from Abigail Harper. The rest of the way,
Kaitlyn Casias and
Rayner LeBlanc both hit well for the Majors, going 2-2 and 2-3 at bat respectively. However, the Majors failed to turn any of their six hits into runs, leaving nine runners on base by the end of the game.
Game three of the series,
Megan Murray had her best game of the season at the plate. At the top of the second inning, with one batter on, she homered for the first time of the season to give the Majors a 2-0 lead. The score stayed put for three innings, then Murray came to the plate again and doubled, bringing in two more runners and giving the Majors a 4-0 lead. In the top of the seventh inning,
Hannah Doggett singled to bring in
MK Bozeman for a run. After two pop ups and a strikeout with Davidson at pitcher in the seventh, Millsaps won the third game of the series, 5-0.
