JACKSON, Miss. (Mar. 26, 2017) – Playing against a pair of opponents today on its home courts, the Millsaps College men's tennis team lost just one match in a pair of victories. The Majors started the day with an 8-1 win over the University of the Ozarks before sweeping past Louisiana College, 9-0. Junior

Cooper Cearley (Midland, Texas) were each part of three wins on the day for Millsaps.
Match 1 vs. University of the Ozarks
Millsaps (17-4) ran out to a quick 2-0 lead by taking the top two doubles flights, including Doles and Cearley winning 8-0 at No. 2. The University of the Ozarks (5-8) bounced back at No. 3, with its team of Cole Lankford and Jonah Martinez coming out on top by an 8-4 final.
In singles play Millsaps won all six matches in straight sets. Scoring the first point was junior
Diego Marti-Vertiz (San Louis Potosi, Mexico), who knocked off his opponent at No. 2, 6-0, 6-2. At No. 1 junior
Alex Centurion (Portland, Ore.) put the Majors up 4-1 with a 6-4, 6-1 decision before junior
Avinash Ananth (Hoover, Ala.) put it in the win column for Millsaps at No. 4 where he won by a final of 6-2, 6-1.
Millsaps went on to collect the final three matches, with sophomore
Josh Shearin (Cordova, Tenn.) polishing things off with a 6-3, 6-1 win at No. 5.
Match 2 vs. Louisiana College
Millsaps was never challenged by Louisiana College (0-4) in the second match of the day. The Majors did not drop a game in doubles play, winning all three by 8-0 scores that was started by the No. 2 team of freshman
Jacob Niehaus (Gretna, La.) and Shearin.
It was much the same in singles play where the Majors won five of the six matches by 6-0, 6-0 scores. Doles opened the singles scoring by blanking his opponent at No. 4 before sophomore
Brian Deason (Birmingham, Ala.) clinched it with another shutout in his No. 1 match. The only match of the day in which the Wildcats won games was at No. 6 where freshman
Kyle Luce (Mountain Brook, Ala.) defeated Nathan Gautreaux, 6-2, 6-2.
Millsaps will be on the road for a pair of Southern Athletic Association matches for its next action. First up will be a meeting at Rhodes College with the Lynx on Saturday, April 1 at 10:00 a.m.
