JACKSON, Miss. (Apr. 2, 2017) - Millsaps falls to the Rhodes Lynx 4-3 in a tough matchup that went four extra innings. This loss drops the Majors to 21-9 on the season and 9-3 in conference play.
Senior
Kayla Davidson (Slaughter, La.) got the start at the mound for the Majors. The game started slowly for both teams. Both the Lynx and Majors failed to get much going on offense through five innings. Then, in the fifth inning, Karrah Flores of Rhodes stepped up to the plate and scored a two-run home run. Millsaps failed to answer the two runs in the fifth inning, but held solid on defense in the sixth inning to keep the score 2-0. Next, senior
Rayne Gravat (Franklin, Tenn.) responded with a two-run homer of her own in the bottom of the sixth to knot up the score going into the seventh inning.
Both teams gave up two hits but kept the other team from scoring runs in the seventh inning and the game went into extra innings. The score remained the same for two extra innings before Rhodes got on the board again on a sacrifice fly by Kirsten Samuels to bring their international tiebreaker runner in. Millsaps got out of that 10th inning down 3-2 and had another chance to answer Rhodes on offense.
Down two outs, Davidson hit a clutch single for the Majors to bat senior
Kaitlyn Casias (Cypress, Texas) in and tie the game up at 3-3. Millsaps was unable to score again and get the win in the 10th so the game headed into another extra inning. In the 11th inning, Rhodes scored off a double by Kendall Henry to take a 4-3 lead. At the bottom of the 11th, the Majors had a chance to tie or win with a runner on third base, but a fly out to center field didn't drop for junior
Blair Little and the team fell just short of another comeback victory.
