CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. (Apr. 21, 2017) - Millsaps beat Sewanee: The University of the South and Rhodes College in the first two rounds of the SAA Softball Conference Tournament. After those victories, the Majors will now advance to the next round to play against #1 seed Berry College.
In game one against Sewanee, senior
Megan Murray (Madison, Miss.) hit a single to left field to bat the first runner of the game in in the bottom of the first inning. Sewanee responded, scoring their only run of the game at the top of the 2nd, after four batters were walked and hit by pitch. The Majors regained the lead after senior
Kaitlyn Casias (Cypress, Texas) singled to bring another runner home.
After a few quiet innings, Millsaps' offense got rolling again when senior
Rayne Gravat (Franklin, Tenn.) hit a two run homer to give Millsaps a 4-1 lead going into the sixth inning. Then, in the bottom of the sixth, Casias, sophomore
MK Bozeman(Bossier City, La.), senior
Rayner LeBlanc (Coteau, La.), and junior
Blair Little (Grand Lake, La.) all batted runners in and Millsaps won the game 9-1.
Game two against Rhodes, Millsaps struck first. Murray again drove a runner in to give Millsaps a 1-0 lead in the first inning. Rhodes answered that run in the second off a single by Caroline Sutton to tie the game up at 1-1. In the third inning, a sacrifice fly ball by senior
Hannah Doggett (Cypress, Texas) drove a runner home to give the Majors a 2-1 lead that they ultimately never gave up.
Millsaps will now face Berry College tomorrow at 10:00 a.m. EST. The winner of this game will only have to play one game on Saturday and will face the winner of the Loser's bracket on Sunday.
