CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. (Apr. 22, 2017) – Millsaps College lost to the Berry College Vikings 2-1 in the third round of the double elimination SAA Softball Conference Tournament, then defeated the Hendrix College Warriors 7-0 to advance to the finals and a rematch with Berry.
In the game against Berry, senior
Kayla Davidson (Slaughter, La.) got the start at the mound for the Majors. Millsaps started slow, giving up two runs to the Vikings on a double by Marie Collop at the bottom of the first inning. From there, Millsaps' defense tightened up, and they didn't allow a run for the rest of the game.
After five straight scoreless innings for both teams, the Majors attempted a seventh inning comeback. Berry made a pitching change from Marie Collop to Makenzie Flynt in the seventh. Flynt walked three straight batters and the Vikings made another pitching change. Then, with the bases loaded, junior
Blair Little (Grand Lake, La.) reached first base on a fielder's choice but pinch runner freshman
Cameron Trussell (Jackson, Miss.) was thrown out at home. Next, senior
Kaitlyn Casias (Cypress, Texas) walked and brought home the Majors first run. In the next play, sophomore
MK Bozeman (Bossier City, La.) flied out to left field into a double play and the Majors fell to Berry, 1-2.
In the game against Hendrix, Millasps got going early, Gravat hit a two run homer in the first inning to give the Majors a 2-0 lead. At the top of the third, LeBlanc doubled to bring home a runner. In the fifth inning, senior
Megan Murray (Madison, Miss.) hit another two run homer to put the Majors up 5-0. Senior
Kat Romero (Lafayette, La.) drove in a runner in the sixth and Murray hit her second home run of the day and Millsaps won the game 7-0.
Tomorrow, Millsaps will face Berry College again in the finals. Should the Majors win the game, they will have to beat Berry a second time in order to win the Conference Championship.
