JACKSON, MISS. (Apr. 9, 2017) - Millsaps College gets past Hendrix College, 6-3 in a Southern Athletic Association (SAA) softball game. This win gives the Majors the season series edge over the Warriors.
Before the game, Millsaps honored and congratulated their eight seniors,
Hannah Doggett (Cypress, Texas),
Megan Murray (Madison, Miss.),
Kat Romero (Lafayette, La.),
Hannah Dee Smith (Decatur, Miss.),
Rayne Gravat (Franklin, Tenn.),
Kayla Davidson (Slaughter, La.),
Kaitlyn Casias (Cypress, Texas), and
Rayner LeBlanc (New Iberia, La.) in a ceremony featuring their families and friends.
Millsaps struck first in this game,
Rayne Gravat doubled in her first at bat to drive in senior
Kat Romero in the bottom of the first inning. Senior
Rayner LeBlanc got the Majors on the board in the next at bat, hitting a sacrifice fly to drive in senior
Kayla Davidson to give Millsaps a 2-0 lead after the first. After not giving up a hit through two more innings, senior
Hannah Doggett singled to drive in two more runners and give Millsaps a four run lead.
In the top of the fourth inning, Hendrix struck back. Nikki Sanders hit a two run home run to decrease the Majors lead to 4-2. The Majors had another two run inning in the bottom of the fifth. Doggett and Gravat drove runners in to give the team a 6-2 lead.
Deva Barnes homered at the top of the sixth to make the game 6-3. Millsaps got out of the sixth only giving up that homer and escaped the seventh inning without giving up a score to win the game.
