PINEVILLE, La. – Millsaps men's soccer dominated Louisiana College 4-1 Wednesday night. Senior
Alex Bourland (Charleston, S.C.) led the offensive charge with a game high two goals to go along with six shots, three of which were on goal and an assist. Senior
Dimitri Staursky (Birmingham, Ala.) finished the night with a goal and freshman
Luca Kistner (Munich, Bavaria) scored and assisted on a goal.
It did not take long for the Millsaps offense to start rolling. In the 10th minute, Bourland was set up with an assist from sophomore
Tore Schütt and bended his first goal into the top right corner.
After many more Millsaps shot opportunities that could not find the goal, Louisiana College brought the ball to the other side of the field and tied things up at one with a goal in the 37th minute.
It took less than seven minutes for the Majors to answer back and take the lead again. In the 44th minute, two quick passes by Kistner and junior
Nathaniel Edwards (Charleston, S.C.) set up Bourland with a header that he drilled past the goalkeeper to give Millsaps a 2-1 lead going into halftime.
Millsaps was back on the attack early in the second half. Staursky scored his first goal of the season in the 52nd minute off of a corner kick.
Kistner scored his first collegiate goal in the 89th minute of play off assists from Schütt and Bourland to seal the deal and give the majors the win.
Junior
Colton Townsell (Conway, Ark.) recorded his first career win in goal coming away with two saves.
"I'm pleased overall with the win on the road." Said head coach
Steve Voltz, "it's nice to see the attack going forward and we created a lot of opportunities for ourselves. We still could have been more diligent in front of the goal and we had the game under control in the second half. We now have to get ready for our next game against MUW."
Millsaps improves to 3-1-1 on the season. They are back in Jackson for a home match at Harper Davis Field against MUW on Sunday at 2:00 p.m.
