Game Recap: Men's Soccer |

MIllsaps Falls to NAIA No.2 Ranked William Carey

JACKSON, Miss. – In a match that was delayed by lightning, the Millsaps men's soccer program broke a three game winning streak Wednesday night to the NAIA's number two-ranked team in the nation William Carey 3-0. Tore Schütt (Hamburg, Germany) finished the night with five shots and two on goal while Alex Bourland (Charleston, S.C.), Brett Judd (Monroe, La.) and Dimitri Staursky (Birmingham, Ala.) all had one shot on goal.

Millsaps fought hard throughout and kept things even for most of the match, both teams had eight shots to end the first half. But a William Carey goal in the 32nd minute off of a penalty kick was the difference that sent the Majors into halftime down 1-0.

Millsaps looked poised to tie things up within the first few minutes of the second half. The Majors momentum was halted in the 47th minute when a Millsaps red card set up another penalty kick goal for the Crusaders.

The third and final goal for William Carey came in the 72nd minute to put the match away from Millsaps.

Millsaps kept the shots close, the Majors had 12 for the match while William Carey finished with 14 and Millsaps had four corner kicks compared to the Crusaders eight.

"I'm very proud of the way we played, we stayed in the game but we need to be more clinical in front of the net". Said head coach Steve Voltz, "Extremely pleased with the way we battled today, there is not one player that did not put forth one hundred percent, it was the best effort we put in this season."

Millsaps drops to 4-2-1 on the season. The Majors start conference play on the road against Rhodes in Memphis where the team will visit St. Jude Children's Hospital to donate art supplies and spend time with the kids. Game time on Saturday is at 2:00 p.m.
