JACKSON, Miss. – A class of five new members of the Millsaps College Athletics Hall of Fame has been announced. The Class of 2017 includes Paul Danscisin '73 (Football); Doug Garner '04 (Baseball); Robin Rockco '04 (softball); Kevin Russell '86 (basketball); and Garner Wetzel '06 (baseball). The group will be inducted in ceremonies that will take place during Homecoming weekend on Friday, October 27.
An offensive tackle for Millsaps from 1969-72, Danscisin was part of Majors teams that compiled a 21-13-1 record during his four years on the squad for legendary head coach Harper Davis. As a senior he was awarded the Coach's Trophy and was featured in Sports Illustrated in July of 1973.
Paul Danscisn '73
A three-time All-Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference (SCAC) selection, Garner was the SCAC Pitcher of the Year in 2003 when he led the league in wins (9) and finished third in ERA (2.57). He graduated as the Majors' all-time leader in wins (32), strikeouts (260), and innings pitched (345.1).
Doug Garner '04
Rockco was also a three-time All-SCAC performer for Millsaps and was named the SCAC Offensive Player of the Year as a senior in 2004 when she hit .376 and scored a league-high 39 runs. As a junior she helped the Majors to the SCAC Championship and a trip to the NCAA Tournament. She graduated as Millsaps' all-time leader in home runs (19) and runs (104).
Robin Rockco '04
In three years on the Millsaps men's basketball team, Russell scored 806 points and grabbed 403 rebounds, leading the Majors in rebounding and blocked shots all three years he was on the team. He averaged in double figures in scoring all three years and helped lead Millsaps to a 20-6 record and its first first-ever NCAA Tournament appearance in 1984 where the Majors reached the Sweet 16.
Kevin Russell '86
A two-time All-American, Wetzel was named the SCAC Offensive Player of the Year in back-to-back seasons in 2005 and 2006. As a senior he hit .400 and led the NCAA in RBI with 91 as well as leading the SCAC in runs and total bases. He was drafted in the 2005 Major League Baseball Draft by the Colorado Rockies and was also selected in the 2006 Draft by the San Diego Padres.
