RICHARDSON, Texas. – On Saturday, the Millsaps College men's tennis team hit the road for their second match against a nationally ranked opponent. The Majors were in Richardson, Texas for a battle with #36 Southwestern University. The Majors led 2-1 after doubles play, and took the majority of the singles matches to grab the 6-3 win.
In doubles play
Diego Marti-Vertiz and
Brandon Beck easily handled their opponent at #2 and scored an 8-2 win.
Alex Centurion and
Davis Plummer followed that up with an 8-3 win at #1 to make it 2-0 Millsaps. Southwestern rebounded, and won the #3 match, but the Majors held the 2-1 advantage heading into singles play.
Plummer kicked off singles with a 6-3, 6-0 win at #2, and Centurion followed with a 6-1, 6-2 win at #3 to make it 4-1 Millsaps. Marti-Vertiz clinched the match at #1 with his 6-4, 6-4 win. Southwestern took the #4 and #6 matches, but
Avinash Ananth gave the Majors their sixth point with a 4-6, 6-0, 6-1 win at #5.
The Majors record now stands at 4-1 overall on the season. They return to the court tomorrow morning for a match with UT-Dallas. Action is set to begin at 10:00am.
