Softball Sweeps Day One in Florida

KISSIMMEE, Fla. – On day one of the D9 Sunkissed Softball Games in Kissimmee, Fla. the Millsaps softball team earned two victories. They first defeated SUNY Cortland 3-2 and then took down Washington College 4-3. The Majors improve to 11-5 on the season.

Game 1 v. SUNY Cortland:
Millsaps put together a tremendous pitching performance with Cassidy DeNoon starting in the circle and Blair Little in relief. DeNoon went three innings, allowed just two runs, one earned on four hits and struck out three. Little shut the door throwing four scoreless innings and struck out three batters to pick up her second win of the year.

SUNY Cortland scored the first run of the game in the 1st when their leadoff hitter drew a walk and stole second and third. A one single drove her in to make it 1-0 Cortland. The Red Dragons brought one more across the plate in 3rd with a single to bring their lead to 2-0.

It took the Majors until the 6th inning to finally get their first hit of the day. MK Bozeman slapped a leadoff single up the middle and Kayla Davidson walked to move Bozeman into scoring position. Jordan Lipari followed with a ground-rule double down the left field line to cut the lead in half. Lindsey Osbon then stepped up and singled up the middle to bring in Davidson and Lipari to put the Majors ahead 3-2.

Cortland threatened in the bottom of the 7th when they had runners on second and third. But Little worked a fly out and a ground out to end the game and pick up the victory.

Game 2 v. Washington College:
Kayla Davidson put together a new season high in strikeouts with 12 over seven innings, she allowed three runs, two earned and walked just one batter to pick up her fifth win of the season.

After Davidson struck out the side in the 1st, Millsaps got on the board first in the home half. MK Bozeman singled, stole second and later advanced to third bringing up Jordan Lipari who picked up a base knock to left to score Bozeman from third and make it 1-0 Majors.

Washington College answered back to tie the game with an unearned run in the top of the 2nd, but the Shorewomen gave one back in the bottom of the inning when they committed three errors allowing Mackenzie Johnson to score and put Millsaps back on top.

Davidson shut down the Shorewomen batters over the next three innings, but Washington College came through with a run on an RBI single to tie the game at two in the top of the 6th.

Millsaps had an answer right away in the home half. Lipari and Lindsey Osbon each singled and Cameron Trussell reached on a fielder's choice to load the bases. Kendall Carder then stepped up to the plate and drove in two with a single up the middle to make it a 4-2 Millsaps lead.

One more run came across for Washington College in the top of the 7th and they had the tying run third and winning run on second with two outs when Davidson struck out her final batter to seal the deal.

The Majors head to Osceola County Softball Complex on Wednesday for two games against William Paterson (NJ) at 8:00am CST and Arcadia (PA) at 10:15am CST.
