Majors Drop Two on Second Day in Florida

KISSIMMEE, Fla. – On the second day at the D9 Sunkissed Softball Games, the Millsaps softball team dropped two hard fought games to William Paterson and Susquehanna at the Osceola County Softball Complex. The Majors first fell to the Pioneers 3-1 in eight innings, then came up short to the to the River Hawks, 4-1. Millsaps' record on the year is now 11-7.

Game 1 v. William Paterson:
For the second straight game, Kayla Davidson started in the circle for the Majors and struck out the first three batters she faced. Davidson finished her day allowing three unearned runs on three hits and struck out seven over eight innings.

William Paterson could only manage one hit over the first five innings, while Millsaps had only three hits after four as each pitcher brought their best to the circle.

Kendall Carder got the offense started with a solo homerun over the right-center field fence in the home half of the 5th inning to give the Majors a 1-0 lead. It was Carder's first homerun of the season.

The Pioneers had a quick response in the top of the 6th, an RBI single up the middle scored a runner from second to tie things up at one.

Millsaps had runners on second and third with two outs in the bottom of the 7th, but an infield pop out sent the game to extras. Two runs came across the plate in the 8th for William Paterson to give them the 3-1 lead and eventually the victory.

Game 2 v. Susquehanna:
Once again, Millsaps scored the first run of the game against Susquehanna. This time it came in the second inning when Lindsey Osbon and Blair Little hit back-to-back singles to put runners on the corners to set things up for Hailey Pearson.

Pearson hit a line drive into right-center to score Osbon and give the Majors a 1-0 lead after two innings.

Susquehanna evened the score in the bottom of the 4th with an RBI double, added two more runs in the 5th with a two-RBI single and brought one more across in the 6th on a throwing error to give the game its final score of 4-1.

Cassidy DeNoon started in the circle and went 4.2 innings, allowing two earned on five hits and struck out four batters. Little came in relief and threw 1.1 innings, struck out two and one unearned run scored against her on two hits.

Millsaps is back at the Osceola County Softball Complex on Thursday to wrap up the Florida trip against Arcadia at 12:30pm CST and No. 17 Kean University at 2:45pm CST.
