KISSIMMEE, Fla. – On the final day of the Florida trip the Millsaps College softball team split their two games defeating Arcadia 6-3, and falling 4-0 to No. 17 Kean University. The Majors are now 12-8 on the season and finish play in Florida with a 3-3 record.
Game 1 v Arcadia:
Kayla Davidson got the start and had a perfect game going in the circle over the first 3.2 innings. Davidson went the full seven innings and allowed three runs, two of those earned and tied her season high with 12 strikeouts.
MK Bozeman reached on an error to leadoff the game and eventually advanced to third.
Jordan Lipari stepped up and hit a sacrifice fly to center field to score Bozeman and give the Majors a 1-0 lead at the end of one.
Millsaps struck for one more in the 3rd on back-to-back two-out doubles. First it was Davidson who lined one down the left field line to end up in scoring position and Lipari finished the job with a double to left to extend the Majors lead to 2-0.
One more run came around in the 4th when Little reached on an error and scored all from first on
Cameron Trussell's double to the right-center field fence.
The game-clinching inning came in the 5th for the Majors. After a double by
Kendall Carder and a single by Davidson put runners on the corners, Lipari singled to right to score Carder and an error on the same play by the right fielder allowed Davidson to score all the way from first to give the Majors a 6-0 lead.
Arcadia made a comeback attempt in the final innings by scoring one in the 5th and twice in the bottom of the 7th. Davidson ended the threat with a strikeout to seal the victory for the Majors.
Game 2 v. No. 17 Kean University:
Playing against a nationally ranked opponent for the second time this season, the Majors were unable to produce much offense against No. 17 Kean University, falling 4-0.
MK Bozeman and
Kendall Carder were the only Majors to reach base, Bozeman earned a base hit to lead off the game and Carder reached on a fielder's choice in the 1st. Bozeman was also hit by a pitch in the 6th inning.
Kean scored three runs in the 3rd and one in the 5th.
Kayla Davidson threw the final three innings in the circle and allowed just one hit while striking out six batters. She is now tied for the SAA lead with 80 strikeouts on the season.
Millsaps will now look forward to a non-conference road doubleheader at Huntingdon on Tuesday, game times are scheduled for 3:00pm and 5:00pm.
