JACKSON, Miss. – In their first match since the spring break trip, the Millsaps College men's tennis team played host to the Patriots of Texas-Tyler. It was a matchup of top ranked teams as UT-Tyler sits at #30 and the Majors check in at #39 nationally.
It was UT-Tyler that held a 2-1 lead after doubles play, and used that momentum the rest of the way to score a 7-2 win.
Alex Centurion and
Davis Plummer have been strong at #1 doubles all year long for Millsaps, and today was no different. The pair picked up an 8-6 win to give the Majors their first point of the match.
It was the Patriots who had a strong showing in singles play.
Josh Shearin picked up the final point of the afternoon for the Majors with his win at #5. Shearin was up 4-2 in the second set when his opponent retired.
What's Next?
Millsaps is back at home on Sunday afternoon as they open Southern Athletic Association play. The Majors welcome Birmingham Southern to town for a match that will begin immediately following the conclusion of the women's match.
