Game Recap: Softball |

Softball Swept by BSC on Saturday

JACKSON, Miss. – It had been exactly two weeks since the Millsaps softball team last played an SAA opponent, on Saturday the Majors came up short in both games against Birmingham Southern, dropping game one 5-1 and game two 5-2. Millsaps falls to 14-10 on the season and 2-5 in SAA play, while BSC improves to an 18-8 overall record and 9-2 in conference play.

Game 1:
Kendall Carder went 2-3 with a run scored for the Majors, while Jordan Lipari also finished game one with two hits. Hailey Pearson picked up an RBI for Millsaps, finishing 1-3 in the game.

BSC got things started early in the 1st inning, Abby Spencer earned a leadoff single and advanced to second on a sacrifice bunt. Savannah Lee then singled up the middle and a bobbled ball in the outfield allowed Spencer to score to make it 1-0 Panthers.

After the Panthers went down in order in the top of the 3rd, Millsaps came alive and tied the game in the home half. Carder hit a leadoff double to left-center and Lipari singled to advance Carder to third, Pearson followed with an RBI single to right to score Carder and even the game at one after three innings.

That was all the offense the Majors could put together in game one as BSC scored in each of the final three innings to put the game away. One came in on a wild pitch in the 5th, another on an RBI single in the 6th, and two more scored in the 7th on an error and an RBI double to give the game its final score of 5-1.

Game 2:
Millsaps got the first run across the board in game two. With two outs in the 1st and Kendall Carder on third base, a wild pitch allowed Carder to score giving the Majors a 1-0 advantage after one.

Kayla Davidson Reel got the start and allowed just one hit through the first three innings. She struck out three batters over four innings, giving up one earned on three hits.

BSC got their offense going in the 4th with a leadoff double and later an RBI single to left-center to tie the game at one. The Panthers added one more in the 5th on an RBI single to take a 2-1 lead.

The Majors tied the game in the bottom of the 5th when Blair Little drew a walk and later advanced to third. MK Bozeman then used her speed to hit an infield single that scored Little to make it a 2-2 ballgame after five innings.

But BSC brought out their power bats and scored once more in the 6th on an RBI double and two more came across in the 7th on a two-run homerun to bring the game to its final score 5-2.

Game three of the series between Millsaps and BSC is set for a 12:00pm first pitch on Sunday at the Millsaps Softball Complex.
