NICHOLASVILLE, Ky. – The Millsaps College men's tennis team was on the road Friday for a conference match with the Colonels of Centre College.
The match saw all six of the singles matches played first, and Millsaps sealed their win with a 5-1 advantage. The Colonels did fight back in doubles play however, and took all three matches to make the final score 5-4.
The Majors improve to 11-5 overall and 2-0 in the SAA. They are locked in a three-way tied with both Sewanee and Rhodes atop the conference standings. The Colonels fall to 4-8 overall and 0-2 in the conference this year.
Centre took the first match of the day at #1 singles, but at that point Millsaps won five consecutive points to seal their win.
Avinash Ananth got things going with a 6-1, 6-2 win at #4, and
Brandon Beck was not far behind with his 6-1, 6-1 at #6.
Davis Plummer handled his opponent 6-2, 6-3 and
Jacob Niehaus picked up a 6-4, 6-3 to make it 4-1 Millsaps.
Alex Centurion provided the match clinching point for the Majors with his 6-4, 6-3 win at singles #3.
What's Next?
The Majors continue their road trip tomorrow as they travel to take on Sewanee. The match is set to begin at 10:00am.
