JACKSON, Miss. – The Millsaps softball team celebrated their five seniors on Friday before their doubleheader at home against Centre.
Kayla Davidson Reel,
Cassidy DeNoon,
Blair Little,
Lexi Barron and
Katelyn Ferrell were honored for their contributions to the program on and off the field.
Millsaps came up short in both games 6-0 and 1-0, falling to 14-13 on the season and 2-8 in SAA play, Centre improves its record to 15-11 and 7-4 in conference play.
Game 1:
Centre scored the first run of the game in 1st inning and never looked back. Melissa Collins singled and was brought in on an RBI base hit up the middle by her teammate Lauren Richards.
Four more runs crossed the plate in the 3rd for the Colonels. With the bases loaded, Abigail Harper doubled down the right field line to bring in two runners. Ellen Stephens then singled to score one more and Sam Thompson hit another single to extend the Centre lead to 5-0 after three innings.
The final run of the game for Centre crossed the plate in the 5th on an RBI groundout to make it 6-0.
Leslie Norris finished the game 2-3 at the plate, while
Blair Little,
Lindsey Osbon and
Jordan Lipari all recorded hits for the Majors.
Game 2:
A pitchers duel broke out in game two with Millsaps coming out on the wrong side. Freshman
Karley Williams got the start in the circle for the Majors and went 5.1 innings, allowed just one earned on five hits and struck out four batters. Senior
Blair Little threw the final 1.2 innings and gave up just one hit without a run.
Centre's one and only run came in the 1st inning when Melissa Collins walked and was sacrificed to third base, Lauren Richards followed that with a single to drive her in.
Millsaps had their opportunities to score throughout the game.
Jordan Lipari was stranded at third in the 2nd and
Hailey Pearson was left on second base in the 4th.
Lindsey Osbon smacked a one-out triple in the bottom of the seventh, but a hard line drive to right field off the bat of
Mackenzie Johnson was caught to end the game.
Game three of the series between Millsaps and Centre is set for a 12:00pm first pitch on Saturday at the Millsaps Softball Complex.
