JACKSON, Miss. – Playing in their final home game of the 2018 season, the Millsaps softball teams comeback effort in the bottom of the 7th came up short as the Majors dropped game three against Centre 3-2 on Saturday at the Millsaps Softball Complex.
Millsaps drops to 14-14 on the season and 2-9 in the SAA, while Centre improves to 16-11 and 8-4 in the conference.
Karley Williams started in the circle for the Majors and went 3.1 innings allowing three runs with one of those earned on four hits and struck out one batter.
Blair Little threw the final 3.2 inning and only gave up one hit.
All three runs for Centre came in the 4th inning. With the bases loaded and one out, Abigail Harper singled past the shortstop to bring in the first run. Then Ellen Stephens singled in one more and Sam Thompson hit an RBI groundout to bring in the third run for the Colonels.
In the bottom of the 7th,
Jordan Lipari and
Lindsey Osbon started things off with back-to-back base hits. After two outs were recorded,
Mackenzie Johnson singled to load the bases.
Leslie Norris then drove in Lipari from third with a single and
Kendall Carder reached on an error, allowing
Shauna Blady, who was pinch running to come across to make it a one run game. But a pop-out in the infield ended the Majors run and finished the game.
Millsaps will now hit the road on Saturday, April 7th as they take on Sewanee in a doubleheader beginning at 12:00pm.
