Softball Wins First SAA Series at Rhodes With 3-0 Victory

MEMPHIS, Tenn. – After splitting the day-one doubleheader of the opening SAA series at Rhodes, the Millsaps softball team used a tremendous pitching performance along with timely hitting and strong defense to win 3-1 in the final game of the series Sunday afternoon. Millsaps improves to 9-3 on the season and 2-1 in the SAA, while Rhodes drops to 8-2 overall and 1-2 in the conference.

Cassidy DeNoon picked up where she left off on Saturday and threw a complete game shutout, she gave up just two hits and struck out two batters. Lindsey Osbon drove in all three runs for the Majors, going 2-2 with a double and three RBI at the plate.

Millsaps got things rolling in the 2nd inning when Hailey Pearson earned a one-out single and was pinch ran for by Mackenzie Johnson, who advanced to second. Osbon then doubled down the left field line to score Johnson and give the Majors a 1-0 advantage at the end of two.

DeNoon worked six straight groundouts over the next two innings, bringing the game into the top of the 4th where Millsaps tacked on one more run. Jordan Lipari walked and advanced to third on a sacrifice bunt and a single off the bat of Leslie Norris. Osbon picked up her second RBI of the game with a sacrifice fly to score Lipari from third and make it a 2-0 ballgame.

One more insurance run was added in the 6th for the Majors. Lipari led things off with a double to the left-center gap and later advanced to third. With two outs, Osbon knocked in her third run with a single to score Lipari and give Millsaps a 3-0 lead.

DeNoon's final two innings in the circle were perfect, facing the minimum six batters to improve her record to 4-1 and secure the first conference series win for Millsaps.
