JACKSON, Miss. – The #40 Millsaps College men's tennis team was back at home on Sunday afternoon for a conference match with Oglethorpe University. The Majors led 2-1 after doubles play, and quickly wrapped up their 5-1 win once the match moved into singles action.
The win improves the Millsaps record to 12-6 overall on the year and 3-1 in the SAA. The Stormy Petrels fall to 10-6 overall and 2-3 in the conference.
Millsaps quickly scored their first two points in doubles action.
Alex Centurion and
Davis Plummer took #1 by an 8-1 score, and
Diego Marti-Vertiz/
Brandon Beck took #2 by a score of 8-5. After the Stormy Petrels won the third doubles match things moved into singles play.
Because the match was played to decision, only three singles matches ended with final scores, and it did not take long for Millsaps to wrap up their win.
Plummer was first with a 6-3, 6-2 win at #2. Next up
Josh Shearin took the #6 match 6-1, 6-1. Centurion finished off the match and clinched the win for the Majors with a 6-2, 6-2 win at #3.
