SEWANEE, Tenn. – On Sunday, the Millsaps softball team swept the final day of their three game series at Sewanee to complete the sweep of the Tigers. Millsaps took the first game 10-1 in five innings and game two 6-2.
The Majors improve to 17-14 on the season and 5-9 in the SAA, while Sewanee drops to 4-27 overall and 1-14 in conference play.
Game 1:
Karley Williams secured her first career win in the circle. She got the start and went five innings, with just one unearned run that scored on two hits. Williams also got it done at the plate going 1-3 with three run homerun, while
Mackenzie Johnson went a perfect 3-3 at the plate with an RBI and three runs scored.
Hailey Pearson brought in
Kendall Carder with a single in the 1st and Johnson doubled and later scored on an error in the 2nd to make it 2-0 Majors after two innings.
Five runs crossed the plate in the 3rd. With runners on second and third, Williams slammed her first career homer over the left-center field fence to bring across three runs. Later in the inning, Carder tripled down the right field line to bring in
MK Bozeman and Johnson to extend the Major lead to 7-0 midway through the 3rd.
Sewanee scored their only run of the game in the bottom of the 3rd when a run scored on an error.
Three more runs crossed the plate in the 4th when two Sewanee errors allowed
Shauna Blady, Johnson and
Cameron Trussell to score in the to bring the game to its final score of 10-1.
Game 2:
Shauna Blady got the start in the circle and went three shutout innings, allowing six hits while striking out two batters.
Cassidy DeNoon came in relief and picked up the win going four innings, giving up two earned on five hits and struck out four.
Millsaps jumped out to an early lead and never looked back. Two runs crossed the plate in the 1st when
Hailey Pearson singled in
MK Bozeman from third and
Kendall Carder scored on a fielding error.
One run scored in both the 4th and 5th for the Majors.
Leslie Norris tagged and scored on
Jordan Lipari's sacrifice fly to left field in the 4th and
Mackenzie Johnson hit an RBI single to score
Lindsey Osbon in the 5th to extend the Millsaps lead to 4-0.
Osbon brought in two more runs in the 6th with an RBI single scoring
Micah Danos and Bozeman to make it a 6-0 Majors lead.
Sewanee scored two runs on the bottom of the 7th on two RBI singles, but it was not enough as the Majors turned a game ending double play to secure the victory and the series sweep.
Millsaps heads to Hendrix on Saturday, April 14th for its final regular season series with a doubleheader beginning at 12:00pm in Conway, Ark.
