LOOKOUT MOUNTAIN, GA-- An early Maryville goal proved to be the game winner as the Scots shutout Millsaps 3-0 in the Majors 2018 season opener in Lookout Mountain, Georgia.
Opportunities for the Majors were few and far between as they managed just three shots in goal.
Scoring for Maryville started in the 15
th minute as Bralen Crouse took a pass from Randy Reichenberger and put it past goalie
Alfie Miller to give the Scots a 1-0 lead.
The Majors defense clamped down for the rest of the half and kept Maryville at 1 heading into halftime.
It took just 12 minutes into the second half for the Scots to add to their lead as John Rakhmonberdiev buried a pass from Kai Miettenen in the back of the net. Maryville added a third goal in the final two minutes to send the Majors to 0-1 on the season.
Millsaps was led offensively by
Luca Kistner, Jeff Bruni and
James Kelly, who each had a shot on goal.
Miller had eight saves in goal.
Words From the Coach:
We lost to a very good team today," Millsaps head coach
Steve Voltz said. "While our willingness was there at times, we have to be more consistent in all phases of the game. Maryville punished us for our mistakes and we continue to be too naïve in front of the goal. The coaches have to do a better job of preparing us.
