Soccer Downs MUW With 4-Goal Output

COLUMBUS, Miss.—Majors head coach Steve Voltz has said multiple times this season that his team has had chances to score, they just needed to finish.
 
Two goals from Brett Judd and a goal apiece from Luca Kistner and Jeff Bruni show that the Majors are taking Voltz's words to heart and capitalizing on scoring opportunities. Millsaps rode the four goals to a 4-1 win over Mississippi University for Women, also picking up their first road win of 2018. 
 
The Owls got on the board in the 11thminute as LaRico Lewis took a pass and scored to give MUW an early 1-0 lead. 
 
However, Millsaps had no intention of being down very long. Less than a minute later, Kistner scored his third goal of the season off an assist from Gabriel Ryce to tie the game at 1. 
 
16 minutes later, the Majors scored, what proved to be the game winner, when Bruni booted in this third goal of the year. Judd added two more in the second half to put the match out of reach and send the Majors back home victorious.
 
The Millsaps defense kept the Owls off the board in the second half while only allowing 2 shots on goal for the entire match. 
 
 
The Match Was Over When
 
Leading 2-1, Judd scored an unassisted goal in the 58thminute to push the Majors lead to 3-1, giving Millsaps an insurance goal. 
 
Stat of the Game
 
Millsaps more than doubled MUW's total shots for the entire match, outshooting the Owls 15-6. 
 
What the Coach Said
 
"We had a little bit of a sleepy start coming off the bus," Voltz said. "We had a very very quick response ready. In the second half, we really let our ability take over the game. Even though we scored four goals, there's still opportunities to finish more, but overall, I'm happy to go on the road and get a positive result, especially with how many players we've had to leave behind due to injury." 
 
What's Next
 
The Majors will head to Atlanta, Ga. this weekend for a pair of games at Emory University. They'll take on Maritime College on Friday at 4 PM before clashing with the 8thranked Eagles in a 4 PM matchup Saturday.
