JACKSON, Miss.—After starting the 2018 season with 2 matches on the road, the Millsaps men's soccer returned to Jackson for their home opener Tuesday against LeTourneau University. As Dorothy from the "Wizard of Oz" said, "There's no place like home."
Two goals from
Jeff Bruni, a goal from
Brett Judd and a defensive gem led the Majors to a 3-0 shutout for their first win of the 2018 season.
Millsaps' first score came 20 minutes into the match as
Brett Judd took a pass from
Bruno Marques and put it past the goalkeeper for his first score of the season. Less than 30 seconds later, after a LeTourneau turnover,
Gabriel Ryce found
Jeff Bruni, who took advantage of a goalkeeper mistake, and put the Majors ahead 2-0.
The defense took care of the rest. The Yellowjackets, who scored 3 goals in their game on Friday, were limited to just two shots on goal, both of which were saved by
Alfie Miller.
The dagger came in the 89
th minute when Bruni scored his second of the game off a beautiful pass from
Luca Kistner.
The Match Was Over When
Judd and Bruni scored twice in a span of 30 seconds, the Majors' quickest pair of goals this season.
Stat of the Game
The Yellowjackets were held without a shot on goal for the entire second half, managing just two the entire match.
What the Coach Said
"I'm very pleased with the way our guys came out and played tonight," head coach
Steve Voltz said. "We still have things to work on, especially finishing in front of the net, but they came out and played with intensity. I'm happy for them to get their first win of the season."
