Game Recap: Men's Soccer |

Men’s Soccer Draws With Belhaven in Physical Match

JACKSON, Miss.—Just seconds before Millsaps was about to send Belhaven back across the street with a loss, the Blazers used a last second goal to send the match into overtime. In the end, instead of picking up a W, the Majors were forced to leave Harper Davis Field Friday night with a 2-2 draw.

Millsaps got on the board first as freshman Throstur Saemundsson took a pass from Wayne Dowdy and buried it in the back of the net, with just over 10 minutes left in the first half, for his first goal of the season.

The Majors defense, which hadn't given up a goal in more than a game and a half, finally surrendered a goal in the 55thminute, when Lalesh Hadji put one past backup goalkeeper Tyler Andrews to tie the match at 1.

Millsaps wasted no time retaking the lead as just 4 minutes later, Luca Kistner took a pass from Jeff Owens and scored his second goal of the week.
It looked like Millsaps was on their way to a second win in as many home games when Belhaven's Alex Hale dashed the Majors' hopes by scoring with just 56 second remaining.

Despite outshooting the Blazers 6-1 in overtime, Millsaps couldn't muster any scores and the match ended 2-2.

Along with the late goal, another big story of the game was the physicality between these two squads. Starting goalkeeper Alfie Miller was injured in the first half when a Belhaven player ran into him, forcing him out of the rest of the game. In all, 8 yellow cards and 2 red cards were handed out amongst the two teams.

Andrews ended the match 4 saves for the Majors.

Words From the Coach:
"Despite the one-sided physical nature, we have to be clever enough to put the match away with less than a minute left," Majors head coach Steve Voltz said. "It was evident tonight that's we've improved on our fitness and that we're closer to integrating the whole team. Now we have to move past this one and get ready for another big game tomorrow."

What's Next?
Millsaps won't have long to dwell on this one as Greenville College comes to Harper Davis Field for a 7 PM kickoff.
