JACKSON, Miss. -- The Millsaps College men's basketball team returns home this weekend after losing consecutive games for just the second time this season.
The Majors will host Centre College and Sewanee this weekend. Check out the game notes below for all of the details on this week's matchups
Last Week
The Majors hit the road for the first time in Southern Athletic Association (SAA) play on Friday night as the Majors traveled to Arkansas to take on the Warriors of Hendrix College. The Warriors led by 10 points at halftime, and outscored the Majors by 13 points in the second half to grab the 94-71 win.
Millsaps wrapped up the road trip with a game in Memphis against Rhodes. Unfortunately, the Majors were never able to find their offensive rhythm as the Lynx picked up the 83-63 win.
With the pair of losses, Millsaps enters this weekend at 10-6 overall and 2-3 in SAA play. They are locked in four-way tie for fourth place in the SAA standings.
Tomorrow: 8:00pm vs Centre College (13-3, 4-1 SAA)
Friday night the Majors will take on the Colonels of Centre College. Centre comes into the weekend tied with Berry atop the league standings.
Last season Millsaps dropped both matchups to the Colonels, losing by just one possession in their game played at the Hangar Dome.
This year Centre is led by junior forward Jacob Bates who is averaging 12.4 points per game, but the Colonels have three other players who are also averaging double-digits.
Centre's defense will present a tough challenge for the Majors, as they lead the league in points allowed with 66.3. Millsaps, who boasts the SAA's second-best offense with 78.3 points per game, will need to play well on that end in order for the Majors to come out on top.
Sunday: 3:00pm vs Sewanee (13-3, 2-3 SAA)
Millsaps will close out the weekend with a game against the Tigers of Sewanee. The Tigers will play Birmingham-Southern on Friday night before traveling to Jackson on Sunday afternoon.
Last season the Majors split their matchups with Sewanee as the home team picked up the win in both games.
The Tigers are paced by sophomore guard Luke Smith, who happens to leads the SAA in scoring with 21.1 points per game. Sewanee likes to limit their opponent's perimeter shots as they are tops in the league holding opponents to just 29.9% shooting from beyond the three-point arc. The Majors' shooters like
Michael Sullivan and
Saxton Becker will look to top that number on Sunday afternoon.
