Game Recap: Women's Basketball |

Majors Win Come From Behind Thriller Against Berry

JACKSON, Miss.—For everything good that happened offensively for Millsaps in their win over BSC on Tuesday, the opposite happened against Berry on Friday.

The Vikings outplayed the Majors for the first 25 minutes of the game, leading by as many as 23. But women's basketball plays 40 minutes, which left 15 minutes for the Majors to make a, no pun intended, major comeback, to knock off the visiting Vikings, 69-63 and move to 11-2, 2-0 SAA on the season.

How It Happened

The Majors couldn't get anything going offensively in the first half, shooting just 18% from the field. Berry, however, seemed like they couldn't miss, going 8-16, including 3-5 from three, to take a commanding 39-21 lead into halftime.

The third quarter started much the same for Millsaps, with Berry pulling ahead by 22 three minutes into the period. Six freethrows and a Taelor Manning three brought the Majors deficit to 13 before a Berry basket and-one put the lead back to 16. More freethrows, a Morgan McCrea three and a Millicent Butler layup cut Berry's lead to 10 to end the third quarter and you could tell things were starting to swing in the Majors favor.

Millsaps opened up the final frame on an 7-0 lead, thanks to an Anna Wilson jumper, a McCrea three and a Dia Fortenberry steal and basket. Berry extended their lead back to six but Manning hit a three, Braxton Thomas scored off a Viking turnover and Wilson buried a three to give the Majors their first lead, 57-55, with 5:08 to play. Then, it was time for Butler to take over. The senior scored the Majors next six points to give Millsaps a 63-61 advantage. Fortenberry put the game on ice with a steal and a fastbreak layup before McCrea and Anna Thigpen freethrows sealed the win.

Millsaps was led by Fortenberry's 19 point 11 rebound double-double. Close behind her was Butler's season-high 18 points on 6-7 shooting. McCrea added 10 points to help lead the comeback.

Stats of the Game

- In total, Millsaps outscored Berry 48-24 in the second half, including 29-13 in the fourth quarter.

-Millsaps outscored Berry 9-3 in fastbreak points in the second half, helping aid their comeback.
