SHREVEPORT, La. -- On Tuesday night, the Millsaps College women's basketball team took on the Centenary College Ladies in non-conference action.
The Majors held a 25-23 lead at halftime, and outscored the Ladies by eight points in the second half to pull away with a 62-52 win.
The victory is the third straight for Millsaps and has their record at 3-1 on the season. Centenary falls to 0-2 this year.
How It Happened
After a slow start for both teams, the bench provided a spark for the Majors in the first quarter. The Millsaps bench outscored the reserves for Centenary 6-0 in the opening ten minutes to give the Majors an early 14-10 lead.
In the second quarter it was the defensive intensity for Millsaps that created several Centenary turnovers. The offense converted those miscues into five points off turnovers to make it a 25-23 lead at halftime.
Coming out of the locker room the Majors began to use their size advantage inside the paint to stretch out their lead. Millsaps scored 10 of their 16 third quarter points off of second chances to push their advantage out to 41-33.
The Majors matched every Centenary basket in the fourth quarter and went 5-6 from the free throw line down the stretch to secure the 62-52 win.
