SEWANEE, Tenn. -- The Millsaps College men's soccer team opened up the 2019 postseason on Saturady with a Southern Athletic Association (SAA) quarterfinal match against Sewanee.
The match was tied 1-1 at halftime, and remained that way throughout the second-half.
Late in the second period of overtime
Austin Miller scored his first goal of the season to give the Majors the 2-1 win.
The victory pushes the Millsaps record to 7-9 overall. Sewanee ends their season with a 11-5-1 overall record.
How It Happened
Senior
Gabriel Ryce continued his hot streak for the Majors, as his goal in the 32nd minute gave Millsaps a 1-0 lead. Fellow classmate
Brett Judd picked up his team-leading fourth assist on the play. Ryce has now scored a goal in six of the last seven games.
That 1-0 advantage held deep into the game, but unfortunately Sewanee broke through for the equalizer in the 81st minute which sent the match into extra time.
Neither team was able to score in the first ten minutes of overtime, but in the 105th minute Miller put home a ball from
Kaleb Newton to give Millsaps the 2-1 win.
On the defensive end of the field,
Alfie Miller anchored the defense making seven total saves, and allowing just the one goal.
What's Next?
Millsaps faces a rematch with the Centre College Colonels in the SAA Semifinals. The match will be played on Friday at Oglethorpe University. The start time will be announced later this weekend.
