PINEVILLE, La.—After starting the season in Texas last weekend, the Majors softball team packed up and headed to Louisiana for four more games this weekend.
Millsaps dropped both games to host Louisiana College on Saturday, falling 7-6 in game one and 6-2 in game two. The losses send Millsaps to 1-5 overall.
Game One
If game one was any indication of how competitive the Majors will be this season, it's going to be a fun one.
Trailing 4-0 in the top of the fifth,
Lindsey Osbon started the inning with a walk and then moved to second on
Jordan Lipari's single up the middle.
Mackenzie Johnson loaded the bases with a bunt single before
Emily Cook walked, scoring Osbon. After a strikeout,
Leslie Norris reached on a fielder's choice, scoring Lipari and keeping the bases loaded. After another strikeout,
Karlie Galloway doubled to left field, clearing the bases and giving Millsaps a 5-4 lead.
LC tied the game in the bottom of the fifth but in the sixth, Osbon got it started again, this time with a single. Lipari sacrificed her to second before Cook scored her on an error, putting the Majors back ahead, 6-5.
But everytime Millsaps scored, LC answered and tied the game back in the bottom of the sixth, setting up an eventful final frame. After
Amber Funderburk got the first two outs, the Wildcats used a double and a single to walk off, winning 7-6.
The Majors were led by Galloway, who was 3-4 with two doubles and three RBI's. Osbon and
Kendall Carder each had two hits apiece while Norris and Cook each drove in a run.
Funderburk took the loss after tossing the final 1.2 innings, giving up two runs on four hits. Starter
Karley Williams went 4.0 innings, giving up two earned runs on seven hits while striking out a pair.
Game Two
LC picked up in game two where they left off in game one, jumping out to a 4-0 lead after three.
In the top of the fourth, three straight two out walks to Osbon, Lipari and Johnson loaded the bases before Osbon and Lipari scored on wild pitches, pulling the Majors within two at 4-2.
The Majors were able to load the bases with one out in the fifth and have a runner on third with one out in the sixth, but weren't able to push anything across. LC added a pair of insurance runs in the bottom of the fifth and went on to win 6-2.
Osbon led the way offensively, going 2-3 with a run.
Millsaps starter
Shauna Blady took the loss after giving up three earned runs on five hits in just 2.1 innings. She also had three walks and two strikeouts.
Caitlin Adkins finished the final 3.1 innings, giving up just one run.
What's Next
The Majors have a quick turnaround as they'll stay in Pineville for a Sunday doubleheader against Centenary. First pitch is scheduled for 1pm.
