JACKSON, Miss.—Because of forecasted weather, the Millsaps softball team's weekend schedule got shifted.
The Majors, who were welcoming Hendrix to campus to open their 2019 SAA slate, ended up playing all three games on Saturday. Millsaps wasn't able to match the Warriors offense, dropping the games 12-8, 12-4 and 10-2, respectively. The losses move Millsaps to 3-10 overall and 0-3 in the SAA.
How It Happened
Millsaps got on the board first in game one, using a
Lindsey Osbon single to plate a pair of runs and take a 2-0 lead. Hendrix responded with four in the top of the third on a three-run home run and an error that led to a run. The Warriors scored in each of the final five innings, not allowing Millsaps, who put up five runs in the fifth and sixth innings, to climb back into the game despite each team ending with 12 hits.
Game two started much the same way of game one, with Hendrix clinging to a small lead in the early going. Millsaps went into the middle innings down 4-1 but used two runs in the third and a run in the fifth to tie things at four. Hendrix responded in the top of the sixth with a pair of home runs, one being a grand slam, to plate eight runs and ultimately take the game 12-4.
Hendrix jumped out to a quick 3-0 lead to start game three but the Majors answered with two in the first, plating a pair on a wild pitch and an RBI sac fly by
Ty Bergeron. That would be as close as Millsaps could get, however, as Hendrix added a run in the fourth, two in the fifth and four in the seventh to take game three 10-2, sweeping Millsaps.
On the day, the Majors were led at the plate by freshman backstop
Karlie Galloway. She finished 6-8, including 3-3 in game one and game two, with a double, an RBI and four runs scored. Bergeron also had a monster series, going 5-8 with a pair of doubles, two runs and four RBI's.
Jordan Lipari also had hits in all three games for the Majors.
On the mound,
Amber Funderburk took the loss in game one while
Shauna Blady took the loss in games two and three.
What's Next
Millsaps will be back at the Millsaps Softball Complex for a doubleheader on Tuesday against cross-the-street rival Belhaven. First pitch is scheduled for 5pm.
